Tu'uhevaha J Kaitu'u-Lino

Dr Tu’uhevaha Kaitu’u-Lino is a NHMRC RD Wright Biomedical Research Fellow who leads a team in the Translational Obstetrics Group. She is also known nationally for her passion and dedication around promoting science to the wider community. Dr Kaitu’u-Lino’s work has an absolute focus on clinical translation, with her goal being to develop new therapeutics to treat major pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia. Preeclampsia affects 5-7% of pregnant women and currently has no cure, resulting in the death of 76,000 mums globally each year and countless more babies due to prematurity. Dr Kaitu’u-Lino is working to provide a better understanding of why anti-angiogenic factors sFlt1 and soluble endoglin are released from the preeclamptic placenta. Her vision is that providing a better understanding of these mechanisms will allow the development of targeted therapeutics to treat this devastating disease.
